First one is here. Lucy is not doing anything - I have broken the membrane and hoping she will cut the cord but she is disinterested in it. Send maternal vibes to her!!
First one is a healthy boy, 15.8 oz, looks to be brindle front with black rear (hard to tell as fur is still wet). Next one is in the canal and ready to pop. Lucy has finally gotten the idea and is licking the boy and has cut the cord.
oh wow jean how exciting, what a great thing to be part of. we send best wishes and love all around how are the foster siblings taking it? If i can help in any way pls let me know! my email again is dance_candy03@hotmail.com. cant wait to meet miss lucy and the pups!
NumbeR 3 is another boy. Number 4 arrived at 5:10 - discovered when I went to check if the placenta from #3 had been passed. Lucy is ignoring it and seems to be sleeping. Lucy was oblivious to number 4 - I have removed the membrane and suctioned it, and will cut the cord in a few moments if Lucy doesn't respond.
At 5:45 I spoke with the vet as Lucy was sound asleep and another sac of fluid was emerging. Vet walked me through doing an internal (thank god I was prepared with gloves, scissors, towels, etc. etc) to fish out the cord and placenta of number four and bring out what the vet thought was a final sac of placental fluid. Vet thought Lucy was done, given that she'd gone to sleep. At 6:00, just after Sue and I tied the cord on number four, I glanced down and saw another pup in membrane slide out. Number four is a girl. Not sure what number 5 is - Lucy has removed the membrane and we are now waiting for either Lucy to cut the cord or for the placenta to come out (or I go fishing again).
Lucy is very, very tired. I hope there aren't too many more to come.
Number six just slipped out after three hard contractions. Lucy is taking care of it. So far we have three boys, two girls, and I haven't checked number six yet.
I think we are finished - four boys and two girls. She is resting and feeding them all. We are going to have a much-needed coffee and then will check her to make sure she has no more surprises for us. I will post pics shortly.
Congratulations Lucy and Jean! Six puppies is a good number, I think - not so many that it will drive you crazy, but enough so that they didn't get too big to deliver naturally.
I'm so happy for Lucy and for you that she didn't have complications. I've been watching the blog ever since #2 was born breech. You know she'll probably want to bring them to your bedroom, don't you?
Wait! We're not done yet! Sue and I were just cleaning her bed and putting dry towels down two hours after the last birth, as she's just resting and nursing and .........out popped another one! Number 7. Sure wish we knew just how many are in there - this is a good reason to xray before birth, so you can be sure they are all out. Given how tired she is, the little bit of moving her about to change the blankets likely was the stimulus to restart contractions and there could well be more to come.
Oh, and I haven't weighed the last couple, but the others range from 13 oz to 1 lb 1 oz. We weighed them on two different scales to make sure we were right - that's what they are!
Still counting....or at least, could be. Number nine is still attached as we wait for the afterbirth, then we'll see if there is a number 10 in the queue. Lucy, you only have ten teats and I don't have any baby bottles around here! Enough already!

Wow, what great news!
Lucy, I'm glad your maternal instincts are kicking in. Here's to everything going smoothly for you and for Fostermama Jean!
New pups - welcome! You arrived at the perfect birthing center. ;) You will be so well taken care of and loved.
Jean - I can't believe you were still updating us in the middle of this. Thank you! Much strength, calm and joy to you!
Number two - a breech boy - arrived after a very difficult delivery at 4:55. Number three - sex not yet determined - arrived at 5:05.

Poor Lucy is probably very tired after the breech baby. Did Sue make it to the birthing???
Number six just slipped out after three hard contractions. Lucy is taking care of it.
So far we have three boys, two girls, and I haven't checked number six yet.
Yes, Sue (another SPCA volunteer and friend from Weds Walks - Jazzy's mom) is here assisting me - thank goodness!!! She is also taking photos.
I think that second one really did exhaust her.
I think we are finished - four boys and two girls. She is resting and feeding them all. We are going to have a much-needed coffee and then will check her to make sure she has no more surprises for us.

Congratulations!-QBert
Whew! I hope she is done. Poor girlie. Although if I could give birth while in a natural sleep I'd be all about that.
Best of luck to you and your new foster family!
Congratulations ladies on a job well done.

The wait is over! I'm going to relax now! LOL Congratulations to all. Lucy and her 6 pups are indeed lucky to be with you Jean!
Barbara
great job Lucy, Jean and Sue!
6 pups that is quite a lot! Glad it all went well!
And followed immediately by Number 8.
Both seven and eight are boys - making six boys, two girls so far.
Oh, and I haven't weighed the last couple, but the others range from 13 oz to 1 lb 1 oz. We weighed them on two different scales to make sure we were right - that's what they are!
HA!!!!
And you thought I was being evil when I guessed 6 pups, 4 boys and 2 girls...
This is turning out to be QUITE the whelping! Wow Lucy, that's quite a feat! I'm so glad that you've been in such good hands for this.
Ellen
