The Cat in the Tree

Last week, I made the decision to have my rotten, diseased, bug-infested apple tree removed. My tree pruner and I had discussed several options for trying to save it, but the decision became clear when he pushed on the trunk and it nearly toppled over. My water-logged, clay-based
backyard had likely created root rot for a tree whose feet were constantly soaking wet.

The surprise, however, came when the pruner bucked up the twisted, mangled, rotten trunk. There, in the middle of the wood, was..... a cat!

Can you spot it in this photo?

It's here:

At least, that's what it looks like to me, though I think the pruner questioned my sanity when I made him stop work so I could photograph it.

Next spring I will have some landscaping done to incorporate bushes and other low-maintance cover for the birdies who liked to sit on the apple tree's branches.

And the cat in the tree? The tree is being chipped up for recycling - and the trunk section is being turned into apple chips for smoking fish. Cat....meet fish! Very appropriate, I think.

You aren't crazy. I see the cat too.
You should have a round cut off to save the cat. Have it varnished and you could use it in the garden for decoration.

It totally looks like a cat, and I saw it right away. I had the same thought as Else about a decoration. It would be a cute tabletop for a garden table.

Darn, why didn't I think of that??? It's too late now - it is gone and no doubt already chipped.

I see a cat, and on the left side a mouse and top right a fish!
Do you all see that?

sorry, I meant to say Rabbit, not mouse. I'm starting to see things that aren't there, hehe

I see a couple other animals too. Tilting my head to the left, that uppermost log on the right has a cat or rabbit too. I'm seeing all kinds of critters.

Looks like a lemur to me...but then I see things differently than a lot of people do!
