A whale of a time!
On the aforementioned trip to the mainland, I was thrilled to once again hear the captain of the ferry direct our attention to the killer whales - orcas - swimming past the starboard side. This is the second ferry trip on which I've encountered whales, and we have also seen them in the bay near my home. On this trip, it appears there were just two - perhaps a mom and a juvenile, as this photo seems to indicate:
