Diving Dogs and Wednesday Walks

There were only eight dogs and five humans on the Wednesday Walk this week. Karen and her crew were busy with company, and my Charley elected to stay home for some reason. We headed off to Swallowfield. The river is very low after a long dry summer, but not so low that the swimming dogs can't swim and the diving dogs can't dive.

Mary caught this great sequence of Tess diving off the rocks to retrieve the mighty stick:

Then Tarben and Tess decided to have a tug of war with the stick:

It's MINE!

Nyah Nyah Nyah! I won!

But as soon as Tarben gets distracted, Tess sees her opportunity and grabs the stick:

Ya snooze, ya lose!

The wolfhounds, not water dogs, even ventured into the river for a refreshing wade in the water.

But their favourite part of the hike was eating the plentiful, juicy blackberries off the vine:

Yum, Yum! Blackberries!

I wish they weren't so prickly!

The humans feasted on the blackberries too, and also on these amazingly sweet little plums, not much bigger than cherries:

Mary wanted to give Tarben a bath. Tarben did not take kindly to being coaxed into the water:

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

And a few other shots of the day:

Hugo and Tess

Does this stick make my butt look big?

Archie

(Thanks to Mary C. for permission to use the Tess sequence)

Does anyone else see a swimming dog's head in the rock/island in photos #1 and #7?? (all right, maybe a swimming sheep, but this is a dog post, okay?)

Some great shots here, Jean. These Wednesday Walks really look like a lot of fun! I especially laughed at the "Does this stick make my butt look big?" caption. Have to admit the answer might be "yes" but please don't pass along my opinion:) Great Tess sequence too! Oh, and those plums. If they were as delicious as they looked, then they were very fine indeed!

I see what you mean EvenSong. From that angle it does look like a head.
It was a great day and Mary and Jean got some amazing pictures.
Jean we will have to go again soon and bring a bag and bring some plums home. They were yummy.
