Getting to know you....

Georgi B.

Getting to know you,
Getting to know all about you,
Getting to like you,
Getting to hope you like me too.......
(Rodgers and Hammerstein, 1951)

I have always liked this song from the broadway hit The King and I, and today its cheerful melody was running through my mind as I got to know our newest visitor.

Georgi lives with my friends Gail and Jim, but is staying with me for a few days while they are out of town.  I have, of course, met Georgi many times before, she knows my dogs and cat,  and gets along just fine with all of them.  This is, however, the first time her folks have left her here - indeed the first time she has been left overnight anywhere - so this sweet senior Cavalier King Charles Spaniel  ( I think I got that right) is on an adventure.  And getting to know her  is lots of fun.

She began by wandering into the bedroom and anointing the rug five minutes after Gail left.  My fault -- I should have immediately taken her outside into the back yard knowing she might be a bit taken aback seeing her mom leave without her.  Ah well, we are used to accidents around here, and I needed to haul the carpet cleaner out today anyway to finish removing a stain one of my girls left behind the other day.    Next, she tested out each of Charley's beds:

Hmmmm.....too hard!

This is better!

That didn't impress Charley in the least.  Charley voiced her protest by choosing the most inconvenient and uncomfortable place to lie:

Poor me, poor poor me!

Georgi wasn't sure about having a nap in a relatively strange place, so after watching her hop from bed to bed to bed, and letting her into the back yard numerous times,  I decided a walk to the beach might be just the ticket for sweet little Georgi.

Georgi loves water.  She LOVES water.  Gail had already told me this, so I packed a towel and a longline in my bag and off we went.  She couldn't quite figure out the seawalk - she could see the water, but not how to reach it down there below us.

oh my oh my oh my

But soon we reached the berm and her face lit up with anticipation,

WATER!!!!
so I snapped on the longline and tossed a stick for her - into the ocean she went, happy as a clam....or a duck....or an oystercatcher in water.

I'll get it!  I'll get it!

Ahhhhh!  So relaxing!

She let me know when she was ready to come out,

I lost my stick.....may as well go home now.

so I dried her off and we headed home, where we discovered Charley had decided turn about was fair play - she had squeezed herself into Georgi's little bed and was fast asleep!

I don't care if it's too small - if she's gonna steal my beds, I'm gonna steal hers!

All that walking and swimming had worn Georgi out, so she headed straight for Charley's favourite spot in the afternoon sunbeam, and went right to sleep.

She awoke just long enough to eat her dinner and use the backyard facilities, and headed right back to bed.  I do believe she had a very good first day.

Welcome, Georgi, we look forward to getting to know you more tomorrow.

Georgi certainly isn't shy about making herself comfortable in a stranger's home! And Charley is such a gracious host for allowing Georgi to take over her favourite sleeping spot in the sun. The photos have a remarkable way of telling the story as it is and your captions are humorous touch. Great post!

I would like to pass on The 7 Links Challenge to you. If you're up for the challenge, please visit this link for details:

Ah sweet Georgie Girl. I'm so glad that you let her have fun in the water.

Happy Bark Days - the 7 links challenge looks like a lot of fun. I started to do it and then realized that with nearly 900 posts it was going to take me a while to find the seven for the links. So this is a project I will postpone for a dull, rainy, winter's day!
