What is it about long weekends......?

I think every time one of my dogs has had a major health issue requiring a vet, it has either been on a long weekend or heading into a long weekend.  Eddie has had two more grand mal seizures in less than twenty-four hours - one just before dinner yesterday and one just after lunch today.  My vet is starting him on phenobarbital (which might make some matters, like his food obsession, worse) in the hopes that we can put a stop to them.
But, realistically?  This is very, very bad news.  And I won't prolong the situation if it worsens, or even if it doesn't improve.  Quality of life is far more important than quantity.  I'll keep you posted.

Sorry to hear this. Tilley lived on phenobarbital for about a year after she first started having seizures, so definitely give it a chance!

Sorry to hear this. Tilley lived on phenobarbital for about a year with brain tumour and good quality of life after she first started having seizures, so definitely give a chance!

And one more seizure, five hours after the last one. Talked to on-call vet again and upped pheno, also gave a doggy valium I had in my arsenal from previous dogs - vet hopes this will get him through the night.

So very sorry to hear about dear Eddie. Hopefully the meds will calm it down - thoughts and prayers for you both.

I was hoping for a one off here, watching a dog have seizures is terrifying for anyone, poor Eddie I hope he rallies from this on his medication, Jean I had a daxie for years who started having seizures at 1 years old, my vet in Langley at the time put him on K-bromide (potassium bromide) the pheno was too rough for him. just a suggestion maybe for later if it comes up. thoughts and prayers with you, and youre right everything seems to happen in groups or on weekends.
((Hugs))
