Two worlds, ten minutes apart.

Spring is here.  Snow is gone.  Neighbour's yard provides a nice photo op:

Mitzi enjoys a stroll on the sea walk.  The honeysuckle along my back fence has lots of new growth.  The hyacinths in my yard are peeking out of the ground with their pretty blue heads, and the primulas are in full bloom.

And then we go to Swallowfield.  Ten minutes north.  Wearing runners and a light jacket.  That was a mistake.  Different world:

Maybe tomorrow we'll see how much snow is left up at Crofton Lake.  Perhaps I'll wear my boots.

What a difference! Just that little bit more north.
Is it perhaps a bit higher too?

Caroline, that's the funny thing - Swallowfield is at sea level (an estuary) just as we are - which was why I didn't expect snow there. But then I went into Chemainus, a few minutes still further north but also by the water, and they have tons of snow on the ground still. We really do live in our own climate zone here in Crofton.
Crofton Lake, however, which is on the shoulder of Richard's Mountain, is above the town so I will expect there to still be snow there today if we go.

I lied. It's snowing again today in Crofton. OLD WOMAN WINTER, YOU GET YOUR BUTT OUT OF HERE OR I'LL KICK YOU WITH MY BRAND NEW BOOTS!

Glad to hear you have new boots. Running shoes were certainly not the thing to wear to Swallowfield.
I would also rule Crofton Lake out today. It's nasty outside.
What ever happened to our beautify sunny January and February weather.

Else and the sleeping dogs.

What happened to "A little bit of winter is a beautiful thing"? ( I wondered if you might be lying, just a little)
Oh yah , you said, "a little bit".
It's beautiful for a day.. or 2 days max. (if the power doesn't go out).....................................................
After that it's SHITTY.
Most of us moved here to the wet coast to get away from snow, right?
